Sugar?s owner passed away. She was 90 years old, leaving Sugar with no provision for her care. Family members were out-of-state and could not take Sugar. A kind neighbor took Sugar in, but Sugar was mourning her owner?s passing and refused to eat. No matter what foods were offered, Sugar would sniff and walk away. She began losing weight and soon her bones began to show. Frustrated and not knowing anyone else who could help, the kind neighbor contacted SCDR for assistance. We agreed to take Sugar into rescue and help her get happy again and begin eating on a regular basis.
Sugar is a beautiful girl with a slight sprinkling of gray on her face. She is an absolute love. If you have a soft spot in your heart for the senior dachshunds, you will fall in love with Sugar. Despite her recent loss of family, she is now a happy-go-lucky little lady who enjoys every moment of life. She especially loves lap time, and will nap quietly for as long as you sit with her. She will bestow her people with the sweetest little kisses. She asks for very little; a cozy bed with a soft blanket, her breakfast and dinner, and the unconditional love of someone who will cherish her (and rub her belly) for the rest of her life.
Sugar is fine with the other doxies in her foster home. She is a gentle soul, and avoids the younger one?s rough-house playing, so it would be best if she had an older, mellow, male companion. She would also be okay as an ?only dog?. Sugar is fine with children over 8 years old, but we don?t know how she feels about cats. She would prefer to live with someone who is home most of the time if there is no other dog for companionship.
Sugar is once again a good eater (a much appreciated attribute in the rescue world). She is reluctantly crate trained. She would prefer to sleep in the big bed with her people, but has settled for a cushy dog bed and soft fleece blanket in the master bedroom for now. She knows how to use a doggy door. She appears to be house trained as long as the sun is shining and no rain is falling out of the sky. She loves car rides and will explore the backyard for hours. She sunbathes until she is toasty warm and comes into the house to cool down.
